Bleah. And a "What would you do"?

I fired up a session of Rush poker tonight. In hand 11, I got aces in the big blind and threebet the under the gun limper. He called and we got it in on the flop. He had second pair. A calm disinterest washed over me, knowing I had played the hand well. He hit two pair on the river and I was out 70 big blinds on hand 11.

A bit later I raised up a limper with QQ. A shortstack went all in behind me for 30 big blinds. The limper cold-called that bet! He only had $3 left, so I stuck that in too. He called.

We took the flop three way - the shortstack shover had jacks, and the limper had stuck his stack in with ace-eight suited. He hit an ace on the turn.

I kept fighting, it was not happening tonight. Hand #330 on the night, I had aces in the big blind, and raised a limper. This time I checked a 2 club flop (K52), bet the eight turn, and faced a sizable bet on the river three, which I called. Ace-four for the gutshot.

I took this hand as my last - bookending the night with cracked aces.

Enough whining tonight. Tell if you bet this river for value.

If you're putting him on a Jack that you think he will fold then go ahead and bet the river. Most players probably aren't folding the Jack so you're better off checking. If you have him on an ace then go ahead and bet for value.

I really favour checking here most of the time.

I think checking is the correct play also - my hand has showdown value only - I could turn it into a bluff and represent clubs in order to get a jack to fold, but I may end up doing that into someone who has been drawing to clubs the whole time.

Trying to keep my eye out for thin value spots, though.

It would depend entirely on my read on the villain and/or what PTR says.
